First Grade News for the Week of 8-30-10
Homework- It will probably be copied on the back of the "news" page each week!
Each Monday the homework schedule will come home in your child's folder. I suggest keeping this is a very important place such as on the refrigerator, on your child's desk, or in a special homework folder so you can read it each night. I would also check off each assignment as it is completed. This will help with organization. Your child will have reading, spelling, and math every night unless it is changed for another project or assignment. Don't forget to teach your child to put the finished homework back in his/her folder. You will also be needed during this homework time to listen to your child read, ask questions, to read directions, and for other projects, too! Also, please take very good care of any school materials/books coming home. Please do not let younger siblings play with it or handle it. Thanks for your support!
Highlights Magazine
A yellow magazine order form in coming home in your child's folder. Even if you do not want to purchase the magazine, please SIGN AND RETURN THE SLIP. We still get FREE STUFF for the "NO" RESPONSES!
Spelling
On Monday nights, please make flashcards of the "high frequency words" for your child to study. Your child is required to be able to spell these words in our daily writing. We will also have the words posted on our classroom word wall. I have also posted the Kindergarten words.
Powerschool
I will not be posting many grades for a couple of weeks. I want the students to get familiar with the procedures and routines of our daily work.
Book Orders
Book orders are came home. They are due on or before Friday, September 3rd. Please read the attached letter on the book orders.
Vision Screening
This Thursday we will have a vision screening done by nurses and in one or two weeks, the eye doctors come to rescreen the students. If there are any vision concerns, you will be contacted.
